How to Make Your Own Smoothie Bowl

I’ve been making my own smoothie bowls for over a year now to save money - and I want to share my recipe with you!  Super easy - and super healthy. And PERFECT for hot summer days!!  And my kids LOVE these!!  Such an easy way to get in lots of servings of fruit - and so refreshing!

The smoothie is made out of the following ingredients:

  • Almond milk and/or apple juice (¼-½ cup)
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 2 frozen organic acai berry packets (I get mine from Costco)
  • ¼ cup protein powder
  • 2 TBSP chia seeds
  • Top with: organic granola, kiwi, strawberries, banana, and drizzle with local honey SO GOOD!!!!!  YUM!!

You can make this hundreds of different ways!! You can literally use whatever ingredients that you have and make a yummy, healthy, treat!! Just blend your smoothie ingredients and add toppings.

Backpacking with my Boys!

So, here’s the deal. I LOVE the outdoors!! I LOVE hiking!! I LOVE being in nature with the smell of pine trees all around and the sound of a flowing creek nearby. I LOVE hanging out with my two boys.

But - to be honest - when they expressed their desire to go backpacking last year - I was a bit hesitant. I hadn’t slept in a tent in nature since I was a kid. I could have said NO - that I’m too old, that I’m more of a “day hiker, and that I didn’t have time for that. I am so thankful that I did not say any of those things - but instead I emailed my good friend, Linda, and asked if she would take us out on our first backpacking adventure! (Linda is a backpacking expert and really knows all the ins and outs).

We planned our first trip - a year ago - and saw some of the most beautiful Colorado mountains and scenery you will ever find. We hiked 26 miles in 3 days - including a 14’er (Mt. Belford). I was not used to a tent and sleeping out in the wilderness, but my boys LOVED it - they slept great and we had the time of our lives.

So - this year rolled around - and we were ready to tackle our 2nd backpacking trip - with the help of Linda of course. 🙂 We knew what we were in for. Again - it was an AMAZING time with my boys and friend Linda - we hiked, fished, sat in nature, drank hot cider, laughed, laughed some more, and enjoyed being in God’s beautiful mountains. So - here’s my challenge to you: Set another goal -- Dream a new Dream!

Do something you are nervous about. Do something with your kids/friends - just because they want to. Challenge yourself. Do something you think you can’t do - or that maybe you don’t want to do. You might surprise yourself!
